Saturday 13th was the 2016 Wessex Heavy Horse Society Annual General Meeting and Dinner. Some familiar faces were absent this year, due to illness or other commitments, and their apologies were made at the meeting. Best wishes to our society President, we hope he is feeling better soon.

The AGM was conducted efficiently, with the Chairman and the Treasurer presenting positive reports. The preliminary Society accounts for 2015 were available to any members wishing to examine them. Despite the economic climate, the Society has managed to remain in a stable financial condition, and many thanks were made to those who have helped with this, especially the show sponsors. Malcolm Scurrell and Brian Willis were re-elected as Directors, and Peter Tribe was re-elected as President. It was officially announced that, after considerable discussion by the Directors, the Spring Working and Ploughing Match would not be taking place this Spring. The Working has not been abandoned entirely and more information will be given when available.

Despite the absences the Dinner was well attended. The food was to its usual good standard, the conversation flowed, and the Raffle was particularly good this year with a pleasingly wide variety of prizes.

Thank you to everyone who came.

Sunday dawned dry but grey, with a cold wind. At least it wasn't raining! We had a good number of horses forward on the day, including five different breeds: Shire, Percheron, Suffolk, Comtois and American Spotted Draft. This year we also had vintage tractors, who had their own class for the ploughing. It would have been nice to have a few more public through the gate- something to work on for next year, as we certainly had plenty going on in the demonstration ring. A big thank you to all those who helped on the day, on set-up and in the displays, as well as everyone out on the plot. Here are a few photos from the day; there are several more in the gallery:
